Rationale for assignment revision:
The students struggle with the concepts of growth and development. Most of the students in my class have childern, but they have difficulty making the connections between what the text book describes as developmental milestones and the application in nursing practice of these milestones.
For the last year, I have been teaching pediatric nursing and each time I teach growth and development, I think I need to do something different to help the students understand these concepts. I have made many changes to my lectures but with the same results. Students are not able to apply the concepts of growth and development to the clinical setting.

Instructions students will need to use technology:
Students will need to log on to Wiki, I will send them an invitation like Nadine sent our class in the beginning. During class time two weeks before the assignment is due, I will show the screens in Wiki and how to navigate the site. During class time each student will sign on to Wiki and create an account. I am hoping by doing this to prevent some student / instructor flustration from the student who is unable to access the site.
Brief description of content students will need to accomplish assignment (textbook, websites, lectures, videos, resources):
Students will need to read the chapter in the text book on infant and toddler growth and development prior to completing the assignment.
Instructions for students to complete assignment:
Each student will be assigned an age category from 0-36 months. The span of the age range will vary based on the number of students who are in the class. Each student will need to complete a worksheet for there assigned age category. The worksheet will consist of physical growth, psychosocial growth, fine motor skills, gross motor skills, lanaguage skills. Assessment of the growth and development at this age. What tools will be used to determine if the child of this age has any developmental delays. List the parent teaching for promoting growth and development at this age. Age specific teaching about safety.
The student will make the initial post, using examples to promote the concepts of growth and development. Each student will resond to three other students post by adding real life examples of growht and development of childern at this particular age.
Grading criteria, rubric, and assessment:
The assignment will be worth 5 points. I will develop a rubric that gives students guidelines on how to complete the assignment. At the end of the assignment I plan to use the student's wiki page in class to discuss growth and development.
